EXCLUSIVE: San E talks about new songs, life as a rapper

Late last year, San E released new singles, “Me You” and “Do It For Fun.” While the two songs were a huge contrast, “Me You” being cute and colorful and “Do It For Fun” being strong and hard (it also featured UnionWay and DJ Juice), his fans were just hyped and excited for the releases. Luckily, KStreetManila was given the opportunity to talk with him about these singles and his career and passion as an artist! Go check the interview out below.

“Me You” has been noted as something that is cute, catchy, pop, and to an extent, something that a fan would probably least expect from you. How and why did you come up with this song?

I love making melodies and somehow when I was making the track, melody just came out and also the lyric. And when I play the music to the label they loved it.

What do you think makes “Do It For Fun” different from the rest of your rap songs?

It took so long to finish this track, arranging wise and lyric wise. Also instead of making a music video I wanted to something different so I made a live video of it.

Is there any particular artist that you would like to collaborate with?

Someone with unique style and voice

Which local/international artist would you say influenced you as a rap artist?

The Notorious BIG, Tupac, Nas, Lil Jon, Lil Wayne, and many more

What are your advice to people who aspire to become rapper like you?

Be humble

Do you have any pre-performance rituals (like how some artists drink tequila or do stretches)? If you do, can you tell us the rationale/belief behind them?

Before I get onto the stage, I always warm up my throat. I move a lot while I perform, so I stretch my body often. Then meditate.

If you could create a purely hip-hop only group, what skills (aside from exceptional rapping) would you require from the members?

Message, flow, cadence, style, rhyming, uniqueness, attitude…

If given a chance to try writing for a music genre you haven’t done yet, what would it be and why?

Maybe dance music, I wanna make people dance and turn up

If you did not become a rapper, what would you be doing right now?

My own business maybe… or something to do with music

What are your plans for 2016?

My plans are being healthy physically and psychologically, travel other countries and perform.

Have you seen the music videos? If not yet, then go watch them below and tell us what you think!
