With less than two weeks left to the year, Filipino Oasis was in for yet another treat as OFFROAD set the stage on fire last December 20 during ShowBT Night 2016!
Despite the Tuesday schedule and mere two days from the group’s 8th Philippine K-Pop Convention appearance, Samsung Hall at SM Aura Premier literally rumbled with excited fans to watch Daewon, Rio, Habin, Kino, and Harang perform Bebop, Head Banging, and the Korean version of Hanabi. OFFROAD’s sub-unit, OHNOBRO composed of Rio and Kino, also sang 새벽부터 아침까지 (From Dawn to Morning) and Wanna Bom.
Moreover, the boy band did song and dance covers, earning deafening screams from the audience. Daewon sang his rendition of Kim Bum Soo’s I Miss You and Gummy’s You Are My Everything. OFFROAD also sang English songs such as Uptown Girl and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. The five-member group performed Filipino actor James Reid’s Huwag Ka Nang Humirit as well, to the amusement of Filipino Oasis.
OFFROAD shared a few numbers with ShowBT Philippines’ talented ensemble Narra. Harang made a special appearance during the group’s Grease cover of Greased Lightning. Meanwhile, OHNOBRO performed GDYB’s Good Boy with two members. Habin fittingly grooved to Hataw Na with Narra.
ShowBT’s got talent
The spotlight was not claimed by OFFROAD alone as Narra also showcased their flair for great performances through covers of popular Korean songs.
A pair staged a sweet version of K.Will’s Talk Love. A group of six covered BIGBANG’s Bang Bang Bang and the ever-popular Fantastic Baby, earning loud cheers from the audience. The ladies also showed their slick dance moves to BLACKPINK’s Boombayah. A coed unit of Narra got the fans chanting along to their performance of BTS’s Blood, Sweat and Tears and Fire.
Who else would these talented young guys and girls take after but from ShowBT Korea’s CEO Jeong Seong Han! Jeong took to the stage to sing Cultwo’s 사랑은 야야야 (Love is Yayaya) which automatically elicited a collective shout of “사랑해!” (I love you!) from the what the CEO was quick to label as his own fans club.
Push and Pull
Just when the fans thought the show is over, they were quick to request for encore which OFFROAD and Narra gladly obliged to.
Daewon appeared back on stage to sing Uptown Funk and was later joined by the rest of OFFROAD. OHNOBRO performed their song Magic Wand. Afterwards, Narra rejoined the boyband on the stage to dance to Gangnam Style which got the members of the audience standing up and dancing along.
Apart from the performances, the fans also played a short game of Guess the Number game for a chance to win a signed OFFROAD poster. It is a game where a set of numbers will flash quickly on the screen and the contestants have to guess the right order of the numbers shown. The fans got pretty enlivened as they had to race to the stage to get chosen as contestants. For safety measures however, the rules were changed accordingly; the members of the audience were told to just raise their hands instead to get a chance to guess. The game proved tricky as it progressed though; while three contenders answered correctly, about three persons gave wrong number combinations and failed to get the poster.
There had been a slight commotion too when Harang approached the audience. The fans who wanted to get near and get a selfie or a handshake crowded around OFFROAD’s visual. Similar situations happened when Rio and Kino went down the stage as part of their performances.
Later, some Oasis gathered again to the door to the backstage after OFFROAD and Narra said their parting words in hopes of getting pictures, causing CEO Jung to tell off the fans and remind them: “Safety first!”
OFFROAD expressed their thanks for the warm support of the fans. Kino shouted “I love Philippines!” while Harang and Rio spoke briefly in Tagalog to say “Mahal ko kayo!” and “Salamat po!”
The show, which lasted for two hours, had been a beautiful memory for the Filipino Oasis for sure. We thank ShowBT Philippines for this chance to meet OFFROAD.
