5 EXO Songs That Were Specially Written for EXO-Ls

It’s been half a decade since EXO’s began their careers, giving us their first official single “MAMA” and an almost prophetic bop “History.” Since then, they have become one of the biggest and most successful Korean boybands. They have bagged hundreds of awards, broke amazing records, and set a standard in the K-Pop industry. Indeed, EXO has made history. Tons of it.

Yet, despite the success, EXO never forgets their fans. In so many instances, the members have repeatedly thanked EXO-Ls in the most special ways. Including dedicating songs for them. Here are some of these songs that will surely tug at the heartstrings of every EXO-L.

Promise (EXO 2014)

LOVE ME RIGHT – The 2nd Album Repackage (2015)

One of the most emotional and tear-jerking ballads of EXO, Promise was composed by Lay and was written by Chanyeol and Chen. The song was clear in its message; it was a thank you song that emotionally expresses gratitude and warm feelings toward EXO-Ls after a poignant 2014 (when two members, Kris and Luhan, left the group).

Our favorite lines:

Even if it’s hard and I’m tired, even if my heart is in pain, I’ll go on stage again
I’ll muster up my strength once again, for you, who has waited for me

EX’ACT – The 3rd Album (2016)

Another emotional piece, this minimalist piano ballad captures yet another beautiful message. In this song, EXO reiterates what they have always been telling their fans: that every time they fall, EXO-Ls give them the strength to stand up and become stronger. It’s another touching moment of a group sharing their honest feelings to their fans.

Our favorite lines:

You made me grow this much / Feeling stronger, feeling stronger
The long darkness is going away / Like sunlight, stronger, me and you

Peter Pan

XOXO – The 1st Album Repackage (2013)

A song that embeds EXO-Ls in the hearts and memory of EXO (and vice versa), this beautiful pop creates the image of EXO many years from now, reminiscing the joy and love they shared with EXO-Ls. In a song where they compare themselves to Peter Pan, a never-dying source of happiness, EXO-Ls become their Wendys (except that we’re prettier than Wendy, at least according to EXO), and that even as we grow old, we will also remember how much they also mean to our lives.

Honestly, it’s a feel-good song that is just too emotional you’ll feel betrayed by the amount of feels in this.

Our favorite line:

I brush off my worn out diary and suddenly, in the opened pages
You clearly are there, you still remain there just the same

EX’ACT – The 3rd Album (2016)

Definitely one of the sweetest and mushiest songs, EXO compares EXO-Ls to angels that it feels like heaven! Written by Chanyeol, its semi-slow beat makes it a lot more beautiful because it captures the sweet and happy emotions EXO always feel whenever they are with EXO-Ls.

Our favorite lines:

Even the prettiest gem of heaven
Can’t be as beautiful as the dazzling you

Cloud 9

EX’ACT – The 3rd Album (2016)

Remember that lingering half-happy half-sad euphoria right after a concert? Well, Cloud 9 describes that exact same feeling where EXO shares the post-concert depression feels with EXO-Ls! It’s a song that tells how EXO-Ls can bring EXO “on top of the highest cloud,” a state of perfect happiness (which explains the title). Cloud 9 just adds a new, wonderful meaning to the catchphrase “We are one!”

Our favorite lines:

You’re such a big blessing, heaven, I wanna stay by you forever
Tell me this isn’t a dream that’ll disappear or just pass by
