The Korean-American actor and producer and his family met with their fans at the Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall last August 5, 2017. The lovable family won the hearts of fans all over the world, including Filipinos, as a regular cast in the reality TV show, Oh! My Baby.
It was impossible not to be swooned by Ricky as he happily waves and throws some hearts to his fans. He shared that the idea of a fan meet in the Philippines was quite instantaneous as he had a friend, who recently opened up a restaurant. As far as what we saw in his Instagram, they seemed to enjoy their time here in the Philippines!
Ricky, who first started as an actor and model in Korea, talked about him setting foot in his first Hollywood film, HeavenQuest: A Pilgrim’s Progress. The faith-based fantasy movie was based on a novel written back in 1678. Ricky plays Prince Elikai of the North, and is joined by an international cast, including one of Korea’s top actors, In Pyo Cha. The film is set for release next year and we hope the movie will be shown in Philippine cinemas!
More than being a multi-hyphenated individual, Ricky said that he primarily regards himself as a husband and then a father. He admitted that he’s still a work in progress. And his skills were definitely put to test when each of his children came out on stage!
But before he called his family on stage, he openly shared about how he met his lovely wife and musical actress, Ryu Seung Joo. It came as a surprise to everyone that they actually met in the Philippines 10 years ago! Both were active in an NGO called Compassion International, and Ricky knew immediately that Seung Joo is the one he wants to marry. (Awww…)
Finally, each of his children came on stage, beginning with the bashful Taylor (Tae Rin), then the popular Asher (Tae Oh), and lastly, the adorable Ellysen (Tae Ra). Each of them had their own unforgettable moments on stage. Taylor tried to hide her shyness when a male fan serenaded her with “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. Fan favorite Asher admitted that he would just eat about anything. And Ellysen, the youngest, broke down in tears having to see lots of people for the first time. In all of these moments, Ricky handled everything perfectly, demonstrating how much he is of a #fathergoals.
Some fans were in for a treat as they played archery against one of the members of the Tae Tae Family. Fans chose to play against Asher, who seemed to have gotten his archery skills from his father. In the end, everyone was a winner, and the contestants were given a gift certificate from Arrowland.
No experience in the Philippines is ever complete without eating Filipino food. On stage, Ricky and his kids were asked to try different Filipino delicacies like puto, mamon, leche flan, and pulvoron. They enjoyed all of the snacks, except for the polvoron, its powdery texture Asher obviously didn’t like. Host Pinky Amador also challenged Ricky to whistle after eating a mouthful of polvoron – and he did!
Love filled the air as Ricky finally called out his wife, Seung Joo, on stage. She also shared how much she enjoyed the Philippines, and it is her first time to visit the country again after meeting Ricky 10 years ago. Before saying goodbye, she sweetly sang a verse from L-O-V-E, originally by Nat King Cole. Can we say that they are such #couplegoals?
Ricky and his family sincerely thanked all the fans who have supported them through “Oh! My Baby” and even after their departure from the show. He said that he is looking to have another show similar to “Oh! My Baby” and visit the Philippines with friends through a concert.
We are definitely looking forward to seeing you again, Ricky and the Tae Tae Family! Meanwhile, check out the photos from the fan meeting!
