Fans of Korean pop culture got treated to a day of K-Pop, K-Drama, games, merchandise, and more in the fifth year of K-Pop Gayo.
Loud fanchants filled the halls of Elements in Quezon City as various groups covered some hit K-Pop dances. BLACKPINK’s “As If It’s Your Last” became the most performed choreography but the cover group Chaos emerged as the champion after a successful execution of VIXX’s “Shangri-La,” “Hyde,” “On and On,” and “Chained Up.” Coming in second place is the group Moana One who danced to their version of Wanna One’s “Energetic” while the group Venus, who danced to a Cosmic Girls remix, snagged the third place.
Apart from the dance cover contest, participants also joined a cosplay competition where Emarie Nica bagged the first place after her CL-like stormy rapping and dancing. Meanwhile, Quen seized the top spot at the original soundtrack (OST) cover competition with her enchanting performance of Strong Woman: Do Bong Sun’s OST.
Creative Voices, the forces behind the Tagalog-dubbed K-Dramas, held a dubbing contest where participants delivered funny dialogues to the Goblin, the Grim Reaper, and Deok Hwa in a scene off the hit drama Goblin: The Lonely and Great God. Two winners got a P10,000-worth scholarship to eight sessions of dubbing workshop.
Lucky fans also got to take home life-size standees of K-Drama stars such as Nam Joohyuk, Lee Sungkyung, Lee Joongi, and Lee Dongwook in a raffle. Moreover, various merchandises were made available by online shops and fansites who opened booths during the convention.
