7 Collaborations of 2017 That We Will Keep in Our 2018 Playlist

The new year has arrived and the whole of K-Pop fandom is now open for a fresh set of new music not only from their favorite idols and solos but for a growing trend in the industry: collaborations.

We have seen quite a number of it and the list has kept on growing the past years. Before we welcome the new round of collaborations for 2018, how about we check out a review of the best ones gifted to us in 2017? This list is in no particular order and we’re all here to appreciate the talent and effort put in these works of art. Also, we’re limiting our definition of collaborations to a song sung by at least two artists.

Dynamic Duo and Chen

It would not win the Best Collaboration Award at the 2017 MNet Asian Music Awards and Best Rap/HipHop Award at the 2017 Melon Music Awards if this isn’t good! A song that is quite bittersweet yet warm, it poetically delivers a comforting message. The lyrics are uplifting especially to those who are having a hard time. Enough reason to keep it in our playlist.

Can’t Love You Anymore

IU and Oh Hyuk

This smooth R&B collaboration is one of the most interesting releases of 2017 with its nice play of slow jam and groove. The effort of the two artists mixes well, and their vocals perfectly give off the emotions of its rather sad lyrics. Too sad you think? But then again, we’re leaving 2017 behind so why not give that year’s frustrations the breakup it deserves, right?

Love Story

Epik High and IU

A remarkable collaboration of last year, IU sounds more mature here compared “Can’t Love You Anymore” but is equally wonderful. The boom-bap beat and the melodious rolls of the piano backdrop are a beautiful mix, proving the mastery of Epik High in providing quality content to their listeners. It shouldn’t be a surprise when the song achieved a perfect all-kill on music charts.

Soyou and Baekhyun

One of the most remembered collaboration of this year, “Rain” was a highly anticipated release. This romantic and beautiful duet from SISTAR’s and EXO’s vocals received mainly positive feedback and has been a favorite among fans. With its breathy but soft style, the ballad is a perfect mood setter for the wintry season—and so we’re keeping it.

NU’EST W and Seventeen

Who knew our favorite Pledis boys will be saving 2017 with this collaboration? First performed in the 2017 MNet Asian Music Awards, and is the first official collaboration of the two groups, it got our wigs flying in the air because it creatively combined NU’EST (sans Minhyun) and Seventeen styles in one song! If that isn’t eargasmic enough as a description then we don’t know what it is. Why we’re keeping it? We just simply can’t get over it.

Blue Moon

Hyorin and Changmo

Oh boy this collaboration is definitely one of the grooviest of the year! This venture into tropical house EDM gives us a not in-your-face upbeat jam which makes the song easy to love. A perfect song to enter the year in a cheery mood, right?

Cave Me In

Gallant, Tablo, and Eric Nam

The sole purely English in our list, this smooth song is almost faultless! Although almost a year old already, released at the end of January last year, its sound remains as irresistible as it first came out. Tablo’s rap, and the mellow in Gallant and Eric Nam’s vocals make a colorful, smooth blend that is simply soothing to the ears. We’re never forgetting it this year.

Did your favorite collaborations make it in our list? If not, feel free to add yours in the comments section below so others can listen to them as well! No one minds a long playlist of good music anyway.
