The hashtags for the two of the biggest K-Pop boy groups, BTS and EXO, topped the Philippines’ Twitter trending topics after a grueling 24-hour FIFA poll asking which song should be played during the World Cup finals.[caption id="attachment_7469" align="aligncenter" width="520"] K-POP POWER! The top two trending topics of the Philippines on Thursday night were K-Pop related.[/caption]
On July 4, the official FIFA World Cup Twitter account released a poll asking, “From the final four, which beat do you want heard inside the stadium?” The choices included BTS’ “Fake Love,” EXO’s “Power,” J Balvin’s “Mi Gente,” and the Zedd, Maren Morris, and Grey collaboration, “The Middle.”
The fandoms of the two groups, BTS (called ARMYs) and EXO (called EXO-Ls), are known to be the biggest in K-Pop right now. It is not surprising that fans have come up with their own hashtags to show support for their faves. It was a close fight, with the ARMYs the leading the poll at first with two to three percentage points. However, in the last two to three hours, EXO-Ls caught up, bringing the results to a statistical tie.
