DEAN and SAAY heat up Manila with sexy beats and smooth vocals in DEANTRBLxSAAY in Manila

It was cold outside, but it was smoking hot inside the New Frontier Theater last November 10 with Korean R&B artists, DEAN and SAAY, in Manila.

As soon as the lights turned off, DJ Eun Seol dropped Childish Gambino’s “Bonfire” that transformed the venue into one huge dancefloor.

Slayin’ it with SAAY

Prior to her debut as a solo artist, SAAY was a member of the edgy girl group, EvoL, in 2012. The group eventually disbanded in 2015, and SAAY started a solo project called “$aay Choreography”, which paved to her identity as a singer-songwriter and budding R&B artist.

It was not difficult to be captivated with SAAY as she made opened her set with “Quiet Down” and “Vodka and Lemon Shot”. Her heavenly vocals filled the theater and everyone was just in a trance. Other songs she performed were “Love Drop”, “Fallin'”, “Run”, “Sweaty”, “Circle”, and “Encore”.

Having received an overwhelming response for her first time in the Philippines, SAAY admitted that she changed her entire setlist just for her Filipino fans. (Awww…) For the first time performed in a concert, SAAY treated everyone with “Cold View”, which was released early this year.

Her fans definitely were spoiled that night as she dedicated a short a capella cover of Frank Sinatra’s “L.O.V.E.” and a lot of “mahal kita” in her set.

In the mood for DEAN

Excitement brewed inside the New Frontier Theater as fans were eager the man of the hour – DEAN.

Opening for DEAN’s set was DJ Reone, who got everyone swaying to jazz-influenced beats. Also, the Philippines was privileged to listen to DEAN’s newest single “하루살이 (dayfly) (ft. Sulli, Rad Museum)”, which was released only a day before his concert.

Despite having a cold, DEAN flawlessly performed a string of his past hits, such as “Put My Hands on You”, “FANXYCHILD”, “21”, “D (Half Moon)”, “And You? (Outro)”, “Where u at”, and “I’m Not Sorry”.

As this was his second visit to the Philippines, DEAN performed some of his recent songs, such as “love”. Released early last year, the song features Syd of the new-wave R&B band, “The Internet”, and revolves around the ups and downs of love. DEAN definitely turned up the heat with this one as he repeated a line from the song to the delight of his fans. (Curious? Make sure to listen to the song to find out. *winks*)

2017 was another stellar year for DEAN as “instagram” soared to the top of every Korean music chart upon its release. But before slowing things down, Filipino REBELs sang “Happy Birthday” while raising their “HAPPY BIRTHDEAN” banners. DEAN was moved to tears while singing.

Not wanting the night to end, Filipino REBELs asked for an encore, wherein DEAN capped off with a solo performance of “Bermuda Triangle”, which he originally sung together with ZICO and Crush.

As soon as the lights were back on, people couldn’t believe it was over. It was as if everyone woke up from dream. We could only wish that we were to experience the music of DEAN and SAAY next time.

We would like to thank MCA Music for inviting us to this event.
