Pasukan nanaman which means it’s school uniform time! And while some of us may have hated school uniforms (honestly, some school uniforms just look like your grandma’s unwanted table cloth turned button-downs), when it comes to K-Pop, it honestly is almost a staple. Looking at our favorite K-Pop idols in school uniform just makes us want to be in the same school with them, right?
And so in “celebration” of our students going back to school, we’ll be doing a bit of throwback to what we think were the best school uniform concepts done in the K-Pop industry!
Please note, though, that this list is not exhaustive (considering that almost literally all K-Pop groups have done it) and that it is not ranked. So without further ado, here we go!
It’s given. There is no way we’re running through groups who did the concept without mentioning EXO. In 2013, with the release of their greatest hit “Growl,” they did not only catapult themselves to the highest of K-Pop royalties but also restarted the cool school boy concept that it’s almost become synonymous with them! It’s safe to say that they almost owned it. And six years later, we are all still down with it.
Boy In Luv (2014)
Then came BTS and their school uniform concept for “Boy In Luv.” Many had it compared with EXO’s “Growl” considering the latter came first, but it was still an equally great concept! Not to mention the whole album. I mean, it’s called “Skool Luv Affair” so it’s pretty expected. They had the angas in them, especially when they had it in the rugged, hip hop style. It was quite rough and almost on the simple side but still realistic.
Rum Pum Pum Pum (2013)
It may not easily look like it given how they have altered the style to meet f(x)’s concept but the girls rocked the concept in the most fashionable way ever! The school uniform concept in “Rum Pum Pum Pum” was approached in some avant garde style which was not surprising considering f(x)’s image as quite experimental in both fashion and music.
Candy Jelly Love (2014)
Lovelyz debuted with this song and the school uniform concept was just apt for it. Starting their official group journey in the industry is like starting your first day in school which makes the school uniform concept in “Candy Jelly Love” a lot memorable and special not only to the girls but to their fans as well.
The thirteen-member boy group cemented their way into the list of the most memorable school uniform concepts in the industry with one of their equally most memorable songs, “Mansae.” Set in high school, with all the fun, drama, and frolic of the budding teenage life, Seventeen made the most out of this concept.
One of their most popular hits (that iconic clock choreography will never be not a classic), GFRIEND’s school uniform concept in “Rough” was never rough at all. It blended smoothly with its dramatic pop sound of the song. There are no other words. We just loved it.
