#KStreetWonders: What if K-Pop idols went to UAAP schools?

It’s officially the start of another exciting UAAP season! It’s another season of Hunger Games for tickets to basketball games. It’s also the time for asaran, pagalingan mag-trash talk, and palakasan mag-cheer. At dahil diyan, we came up with a bright idea: what if our favorite K-Pop idols went to Philippine universities, particularly the ones from UAAP schools? It was a funny joke, but then why not?

And so we quickly grabbed our pens, picked our top five per school (we tell you, the list was a lot longer than this when we were brainstorming), and tried our best to justify why they belong to that university.

We are aware that both the universities and the idols are more than the stereotypes they are known for. This was written in good fun and not meant to offend anyone.

No hard feelings if you don’t see your fave, alright? We’re pretty sure we have almost everyone covered. It’s just that we also have to limit it for “brevity” (we really tried our best). Here we go!

Adamson University

Never underestimate the heart and dreams of a Falcon! The pride of San Marcelino will always soar higher beyond expectations. Listed below are the idols who can scream UNAWAKANAHIMO in high spirit:

Girls Generation

Sometimes, she’s that one annoying and crazy friend who’ll tease you. But when you need her, she’s just there to give you a big hug. If you can’t see Sooyoung bickering with her friends every break, she’s in Zobel St. or SM Manila for snacks.

You may have seen him in the hallways of OZ Building. He’s the smart boy next door Engineering student who always hangs out with his friends. Not to study though. He’s actually just joking around with them, even if no one listens.

Everyone thinks she’s a perfect candidate for the next Student Government election. Soyeon’s the leader everyone looks up to—smart, talented, and warm-hearted. No one can resist her charms!

Nobody knew Seungwoo and how talented he was in singing. Not until he volunteered to perform during the General Assembly of AB in Communication because he needed plus grades for the Prelims.

The mood-maker of the class who makes chika with every clique while waiting for the next Professor. Dahyun knows the all tea but she’s a friend to everyone so, she won’t spill any.

Ateneo de Manila University

Rich, maarte, and conyos of Katipunan. These are just some of the stereotypes surrounding Ateneans. But look beyond these conventions, and you will discover that these students from Katipunan aim to be extraordinary and beyond themselves. Here are the idols who we think fit the Atenean mold:

When Ateneans see Johnny, they get war flashbacks to the boys they encounter from the School of Management. Especially when he wears that polo shirt, knee-length shorts, and boat shoes outfit, which is the typical SOM-boy look. Like most Ateneans, he is the epitome of conyong baduy, but he’s also an intellectual who can talk about anything and everything.

Mark Tuan

Born in LA, anak mayaman, traveled the world when he was young, typical conyo. He’s your usual jock who can throw a party and invite everyone. Mr. Congeniality of Ateneo, anyone?

Despite not having a music course, several local bands are Ateneo alumni. Wanna One’s main vocal will fit in with Ateneo’s music org, Ateneo Musician’s Pool, which can be his stepping stone into the music scene.

Red Velvet

Wendy is reminiscent of the ultimate girl-crush Atenista. She is an epitome of the word “magis”, or, in simpler Atenean terms, a mega-achiever. She is a straight-A student, is active in school events, and juggles participation in several orgs. Does this girl even sleep? Looks like it, with the way she looks flawless every day.

He’s the student leader type! He can be an officer of the Sanggunian (Ateneo’s student government). He has this charismatic personality that will make you vote for him, but he makes an effort to keep his word. An epitome of cura personalis because he wants every project to have a social cause.

De La Salle University

If Ateneans are the “rich, maarte, and conyos of Katipunan,” then Lasallians get the same except they’re along Taft. But they’re definitely more than that, right? They can’t be one of the best universities in the country if they’re just about the moolah. Take a look at our picks and see why that they’re a combination of guts and brains.

We may or may not be influenced by a Filipino EXO fic that put Sehun in DLSU but let’s all be real, the fic must and should be right. The looks, the style, the aura. We can’t exactly tell why but EXO’s maknae exudes so much Lasallian vibes it’s almost impossible to imagine him in another school.

Red Velvet

Imagine Irene as La Salle’s courtside reporter as everyone—boys and girls alike—just swoons over her as she passes by or appears on TV. We can even clearly “hear” her ending her courtside updates with “Back to you, Boom and TJ.” Also, she can be one half of La Salle’s dynamic duo with BlackPink’s Jennie (see below).

If she doesn’t give you an equally strong Lasallian vibe as Irene then that’s not our problem anymore. Jennie gives off strong Green Archer vibes with her classy aura and sophisticated looks. But looks can be deceiving! We’re pretty sure she’d hold a Starbucks cup in one hand and a stick of fresh Taft Avenue fish balls in the other.

She fits some if not most of the Lasallian stereotypes: Inglisera, rich kid (her dad is the CEO of a dentistry company), but she chooses to be rather lowkey about it.

As the gamer who is always hungry, there’s no doubt his fave hangout place is that computer shop at Agno. He always brings food (something he either bought outside or more likely something he cooked himself) in class and nope, he won’t share it unless you ask nicely. You can bet he’d get caught gaming during class.

Far Eastern University

Fierce, fearless, and fabulous are some of the words to describe the students of Morayta! Although they come from all walks of life, the one thing they have in common is that they won’t back down from anything. Check out who we think embodies fortitude, excellence, and uprightness.

Students from FEU experiment with fashion, and CL will definitely fit right in. With her daring style and bad-ass personality, she will definitely turn heads as she struts around campus. She may be too cool for school, but those who work with her have nothing but praise for her work ethic.

Super Junior

With how friendly and well-connected Heechul is, there’s no doubt he connects with the guys of FEU. Heechul’s kindness and sociable nature lead people to think ang lakas niya sa chicks. With a quirky personality and a handsome face, it’s not surprising that he often graces The FEU Portraits’ Facebook page.

Not only is she pretty, but she is also funny and a good dancer. There’s no doubt that she is the face and star of FEU’s Street Alliance. She may be famous, but she’s humble and friendly to everyone she meets. Not everyone looks good in school uniforms, but Lisa can make it look stylish on her.

Jo Kwon

We’re sure Jo Kwon would be among those who were pleased when FEU announced that cross-dressing is now allowed in campus. Jo Kwon would definitely look so good whether he’s wearing the male or female uniform. His willingness to experiment and not subscribe to gender norms makes him a good fit with the rest of the Tamaraws!

Park Bom

When she’s not in class, Bom will definitely be spotted in one of the many eating places at Tayuman. Nope, she’s not going to share any food because it’s all hers! However, she’s one of the kindest and most supportive seniors you will ever meet.

National University

The students of National University are known to be competitive and hardworking. They all work hard to get recognition for both themselves and the school. Get to know the idols who we think will bring even more honor to the school.

Who would have thought that this boyish, carefree girl can be your classmate in one of your Tourism Management subjects? She’s just hiding her inner kikay side through witty yet awkward jokes. When Moonbyul’s not with her friends, she’s studying alone at the library to maintain her grades and scholarship.

He’s just a Freshman in the Physical Education program but he excels so much. Maybe because he has a background in Taekwondo when he was in high school. In fact, he got the highest score during NU’s Admission Exam.

Not just your typical classmate. Aside from his charismatic look, he’s a well-versed and perfectionist dancer who competes abroad, bringing the name of the school. Hoshi’s also one of the cheer dance choreographers of NU PEP Squad.

Young K

He moved back from Canada after studying there in high school. If Young K’s not studying Business Administration, he’ll surely join the NU Bulldogs Basketball team because that’s his greatest childhood dream.

Cheng Xiao

Cosmic Girls

Unforgettable beauty and unmatched talent are the reasons why she’s the star of the NU PEP Squad. However, her flexibility is not just for cheer dancing but also for academics. Cheng Xiao makes sure that her grades are as stable as their routines.

University of Santo Tomas

They say they’re the school of the good little boys and girls. You know, the religious bunch because it’s in the name: royal and pontifical. These may not be the most accurate depictions of what a real Tomasino is but one thing is for sure, they’re good swimmers thanks to España! So here’s our pick for the best Glowing Goldies—wait, Growling Tigers of Korea!

He is the future captain of the Salinggawi Dance Troupe, my friends. Imagine him with the tiger face paint. Damn. Enough said.

Tall, pretty, talented, and with leadership experience, Nayoung has the makings of the next Miss UST, before taking on a much larger stage… Miss Universe. We see her acting like a responsible student in class, but a fierce, confident diva on the pageant stage.

He is the child, the face, the pride, the overlord of the Conservatory of Music. Also, Chen is Catholic (his baptismal name is Matteo). Not that we’re sticking with the stereotype but that’s… pretty much we’re trying to do here.

The Salinggawi Dance Troupe needs someone as happy and peppy as J-Hope. Only someone with his energy levels can hype up the audience to yell “Go USTEEEE!” no matter whether the team is at the brink of victory or the odds are against them.

She can be UST Salinggawi’s next captain. Or if not, definitely and at least once she must have won the UAAP Stunner of the Year award. It’s so clear in our heads.

University of the East

Innovative, chill, and a bit crazy, the students of UE know all the cool eating spots and love making people laugh. Despite their fun side, the Red Warriors are hardworking, tough, and talented. If they can make it through the rain (pre-Isko Moreno era), they can make it through anything. Check out who we think embodies the battle cry “Bomba UE!”

Given how frequently Kai travels, he would make the perfect Tourism or HRM student at UE. He is also definitely that classmate who’ll be bringing way too many fillers to class. If he’s not practicing with the UE Street Warriors, he can be spotted chilling at either TYK Garden or at Batibot (before it burned down).

With his strong features, JB can definitely pass as a frat boy, especially the one from the IT department. Don’t let the vibe fool you. He’s totally that group mate people will want to have because he can do almost anything and looks out for the rest of the team.

Tzuyu will definitely fit in among the pretty girls in UE’s Business Administration program. Although she seems like the shy and quiet type, she has the looks, height, talent, and charm, to compete in beauty pageants in and out of school.

The Boyz

We see Q as that classmate who always has complete supplies. Need a pen? He’s got you. A sheet of pad paper? No problem. Calculator? Sure, he has an extra one. He’d even be willing to help you out with your engineering drawings as long as you ask him nicely.

With his cheerful personality, we imagine DK as an Education major. Friendly, outgoing, and full of smiles, he enjoys a good joke as much as the next person does. When he’s not studying, he’s probably having fun at karaoke or practicing with the UE Chorale.

University of the Philippines

Two words: matatapang, matatalino. Walang takot kahit kanino. Competitive people from all walks of life (ideally) because they are the “Iskolar ng Bayan.” Here are the idols we think give off the strong state university vibes!

We see him as a Bracket A intellectual who enjoys a walk around the oval even if he has his car parked in AS Parking Lot. He also loves the morning jog. He is definitely the school crushie from Econ or Business Ad. His GWA? One point zero something.

Have you seen her in Busted? Smart, strong, brave with sharp adaptability. She even held a snake like it was nothing (although she shivered a bit at first). A typical Iska!

His brain gives off a strong Maroon vibe. He’s smart, tough, strong, and he knows what he’s fighting for. And nope, he doesn’t yell “Makibaka, huwag matakot.” He definitely goes deeper than that. *raises left fist*

If his body built doesn’t scream “Fighting Maroon” to you then you better get those eyes checked! Also, you can imagine him as a frat guy but don’t let the biceps, triceps, and popping chest deceive you. You might find him petting and feeding stray cats in AS.

Girl exudes so much Iska feels. Smart and no kyeme. Her favorite would probably be any kwek-kwek she’d see along the Oval stores or she’d probably tambay at Mang Larry’s. She enjoys hanging out at the AS Steps. Also, she will be the popular girl (especially among girls).

Do you agree with our list? If your fave is not here, where do you think they would go to if they were studying in UAAP schools? Leave them in the comments section below!

Clara Palma
A frustrated supermodel/ballerina/novelist who lists Super Junior, EXO, and Infinite as some of her favorite groups, Clara’s first exposure to all things Korean was through K-dramas Lovers in Paris and Goong. She is willing to talk about fashion, beauty, dance, books, all things baduy, and figure skating over a cup of tea.
