When local TV networks started airing Korean dramas in the early 2000s, they initially used local songs as the main soundtrack to attract more viewers. Not only were the songs made Filipinos love and appreciate the dramas more, but they also showcased the talents of local singers.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane with this list of most loved OPM songs used as soundtracks for the K-Dramas we enjoyed!
1. Pangarap Na Bituin – Jewel in the Palace/Dae Jang Geum
This song is what made Faith Cuneta a household name. It’s about the difficulties and obstacles one must overcome to achieve their dreams. You may think of the song as Jang Geum’s life story.
2. Pag-Ibig Ko Sana’y Mapansin – Stairway to Heaven
Langit ka, lupa ako, hanggang pangarap na lang ba tayo? The song is just as sad and tragic as the drama itself, but who could forget the hugot-inducing chorus?
3. Maybe It’s You – My Name is Kim Sam Soon
In the drama, Sam Soon got cheated on by her boyfriend but fortunately, she found a new love in Cyrus. This song expresses Sam Soon’s hope that he will be the one to mend her broken heart and make her feel alive. Turns out he is indeed the one!
4. If We Fall in Love – Princess Hours
Sung by Yeng Constantino and RJ Jimenez, this song can be Janelle and Gian’s theme song. Play this song and you will instantly remember all their kilig moments.
5. Pag-Ibig Na Kaya – Princess Hours
The Filipino version of Perhaps Love (Korean: 사랑인가요, Sarangingayo), the main theme song, features a duet between Rachelle Ann Go and Christian Bautista. It became very popular among the fans of this series.
6. Wag Na Wag Mong Sasabihin – Lovers in Paris
Kitchie Nadal’s debut song is very popular in itself (it was even dubbed as the new national anthem at its peak!), but it was also remembered as the theme song for this equally hit drama. This song is about Martin and his unrequited love (ouch!) for Vivian. He loves her very much, but he chose to give up just so she can be happy with Carlo. Oh, what a selfless act!
7. Di Ko Na Kaya – Endless Love: Winter Sonata
A sad song for an equally sad drama. It perfectly reflects Janice’s true feelings. She has everything a person could ask for—a good life, a successful career, and a loving fiancé—but all she wants is to be with her true love, Jun.
8. Mahal Pa Rin Kita – Save the Last Dance for Me
Despite everything that has come between Francis and Sandy, they loved only each other, and what they wanted the most is to be together. Their love story is perfectly summed up in this theme song.
9. Kung Hindi Ngayon, Kailan Pa – Coffee Prince
Falling in love is not easy, especially if you are in love with someone from the same sex. Arthur hesitated and began questioning himself while Andy tried to stop herself because their relationship is fake. This song best describes the couples’ true feelings and apprehensions in making their relationship real.
10. Fallin’ – Full House
This song is as popular as the drama when it was aired here. Usually played during the moments of Jessie and Justin together, it tells of how the two are slowly falling for each other despite their personality differences.
Bonus: Three Bears Song (Tagalog Ver.) – Full House
While technically not part of the soundtrack, Jessie’s cute and catchy three bears’ song also gained popularity among the viewers, so why not include this in our list?
