What Went Down at Happy Hallyu Day 3

The Philippine K-Pop Convention Inc.’s third installment of Happy Hallyu Day took place last August 4 at SM North EDSA Skydome.

Not even the rainy weather could stop K-Pop and K-Drama fans from heading to the venue. There, they rooted for their friends who were performing, got some tips for traveling to Korea, and freaked out over their faves with fellow fans.

Oh, and did we mention that Busan MBC was present to cover the event? Footage of the event was broadcasted on Awesome Backpacker.

Here are the highlights of the one-day event:

K-Pop Merch

Happy Hallyu Day 3

Different fan clubs and shops gathered at Skydome to sell albums, beauty products, photo cards, and other official and fanmade merchandise. FanLive even had tickets for NOIR’s fan meeting, while Asianovela Channel gave tickets to Park Seo Joon’s upcoming movie, The Divine Fury, to those who visited their booth.

Korean Language Learning and Concert-Going Tips

Happy Hallyu Day 3

Filipinoonas’ Cami de Leon shared tips on how to start learning the Korean language. Meanwhile, Sparkling Magazine’s Belle Yambao shared how to make the most of your next Korea trip. She also teased that the upcoming issue of Sparkling Magazine will be a double issue, which will be revealed at the upcoming Manila International Book Fair this September. Do you have any guesses who the cover will be?

Contests and Games

Happy Hallyu Day 3

Out of all the well-dressed people at the event, two lucky winners were chosen as the K-Fashionistas of Happy Hallyu Day 3, with outfits inspired by ITZY and SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu. They were lucky enough to take home the official lightsticks of NU’EST and GFRIEND. #SanaAll ☹

Many games were played, but the most memorable one that evoked laughter from everyone in attendance was Asianovela Channel’s Dubbing Game. Contestants had to watch a certain scene from three different K-Dramas and replace the dialogue with their own. The winning team evoked lots of laughter as they had a fight over milk tea. #relatable.

Talented Performers

Happy Hallyu Day 3

What’s a K-Pop convention without performances? Attendees were impressed by the performances during the Open Stage. Cover groups and individual performers sang and danced to songs by BLACKPINK, BTS, EXO, Girls’ Generation, Golden Child, Jeon Somi, PRODUCE X 101, TWICE, and Wanna One. Previous competition winners also showed why they won as they wowed the audience.

To close the event, SB19 performed their latest song “Go Up”, as well as a medley of BTS songs.

Random Dance Play

To really close out the event, there was a free-for-all Random Dance in the middle of the dance floor. Fans went out and showed off their knowledge of K-Pop choreography. Check out some of the footage of the Random Dance at Busan MBC’s YouTube channel! (Full disclosure, this writer also participated in it.)
