N.Flying UP ALL NIGHT in Manila: A Promise Fulfilled

Photos by Elaine Lim

When N.Flying visited the Philippines for K-Pop Republic 2, they made a promise to their fans that they will come back with a solo concert.

Two years later, they finally fulfilled that promise.

Since then, N.Flying has grown as a group. They lost a member, but released a series of songs and earned their first music show win four years after their debut. With new fans and loyal ones, N.Flying showed no signs of stopping.

Their solo concert, UP ALL NIGHT, is just the cherry on top.

High-Energy Performances

On September 1, New Frontier Theater was packed with N.Fias chatting and cheering animatedly as they waited for the concert to start. Behind the band set-up was a large print of N.Flying’s group logo, as well as titles and lyrics of their songs.

When the lights dimmed and N.Flying (plus Dongsung from HONEYST playing the bass) appeared, the crowd went wild. The band made the most of N.Fia’s high energy by performing their energetic songs “Up All Night,” “Are You Ready,” and “Preview.”

When it was time for the first ment, N.Flying was generous in sharing how much they missed Filipino N.Fias and how they were looking forward to meeting everyone in a solo concert. They even shared that they studied speaking in Filipino, sharing phrases like “Kamusta,” “Nami-miss ko talaga kayo!”, and “Gustong-gusto kita.” N.Flying also shared that they had enough time to rest, have a dip in the hotel pool, and eat Jollibee and sapin-sapin.

The fans were just as eager to show how much they missed the group, their cheers punctuating between short silences during the ment.

A Walk Through Seasons

Though N.Flying is known for energetic rock-hip hop songs, they also proved they could serenade N.Fias with slower songs.

Fans had a chance to sit down and take a breather after one energetic song to another with performances of “Like a Flower,” “Crossroad,” and “Spring Memories.” Leader Seunghyub mentioned that it felt like summer in the Philippines, so he hoped that the series of songs took N.Fias through a tour of the different seasons.

Mind-Blowing Stages

N.Flying Hun

A few days before the concert, N.Flying teased fans with a 10-second video of the group singing “Ang Huling El Bimbo” by The Eraserheads. Despite the short clip, it was enough for N.Fias to buy tickets at the last minute, anticipating this special stage.

The moment Hweseung took out a guitar and Seunghyub moved to the keyboards during the ment, everyone knew what was going to happen next. The performance of “Ang Huling El Bimbo” was short yet sweet, the moment made more intimate when N.Flying asked the fans to sing along.

Somewhere between the ment after the performance, Hweseung had set down the guitar, replacing it with a mustache and a stick microphone, closely associated with Queen’s lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury. It was a medley of the band’s greatest hits, including “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Queen is known for putting a grand performance, and N.Flying didn’t disappoint with their rendition. Though vocalists Seunghyub and Hweseung stole the show, drummer Jaehyun and guitarist Hun had their share of the spotlight with a few seconds of them showing off their skills.

“We’ll Never Forget This”

N.Flying Jaehyun

The second half of the concert is just as energy-filled as the first, if not more. N.Flying was playful as they performed “Flowerwork,” “Endless Summer,” and “How R U Today?” N.Fias were jumping enthusiastically that Hweseung mentioned he wanted to crowd surf at that moment.

When the group performed their hit song, “Rooftop,” N.Fias lifted their banners, which said “You are my universe, shine for me.” N.Flying was touched as the gesture, to the point that Jaehyun hung one banner in front of his drums.

“N.Fia, you’re the best! This concert will be really unforgettable!” Seunghyub said as the group started to wrap up the night, much to the reluctance of everyone in the audience.

“This is a memory that I won’t be able to replace with other memories,” said Jaehyun. “I was also able to see your bright smiles. Let’s always smile and make happy memories together.”

Even as the concert wrapped up, it was clear that N.Fias share the group’s sentiment. With a variety of performances, UP ALL NIGHT leaves fans wanting for more. And we’re sure that N.Flying is looking forward to their return in Manila.
