KR ambassador gifts President Duterte BTS album

President Rodrigo Duterte received a BTS album from Korean Ambassador Han Dong-man.

Han gave the album during a meeting with the president for the Association of Southeast Asian Nation-Korean commemorative summit in Busan on November 25 to 27. He said that as an ambassador, he had the job of promoting Korean culture in the Philippines.

“When I met President Duterte, I gave him one BTS album. BTS is one of the very famous idols. This will give a good impact to have a better relationship between Korea and the Philippines,” the South Korean envoy said, quoting from CNN Philippines.

With the resurgence of Hallyu and growing popularity of K-Pop around the world, it has almost become a recent custom to give world leaders K-Pop albums as gifts.

In 2017, South Korean President Moon Jae-in gave Indonesian President Joko Widodo a K-Pop album during his visit there. Last June 2019, Donald Trump met K-Pop boy band EXO during his visit to Korea and was also given a signed album from the group.
