#KStreetPicks: Our Favorite Concerts of 2019

2019 is about to end, and it’s that time when we look back at the year that was.

For our team at KStreetManila, our 2019 was surely busy, with all the Korean artists coming to Manila for concerts and fan meetings. From the many events we’ve covered, we definitely have our memorable ones.

We asked our team which 2019 concert they’ll never forget:

From Bea: N.Flying Up All Night in Manila

September 1, 2019 at the New Frontier Theater
Organizer: Three Angles Production

N.Flying finally held their solo concert in Manila, and it was oh-so-worth it! Aside from their hit songs, they did an amazing cover of the Eraserheads’ “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” then did a cover medley of Queen songs! Plus, I love how N.Flying connected with their fans by doing their best to speak Filipino. Definitely a memorable night for Filipino N.Fia!

From Cheska: Day6 Gravity in Manila

November 23, 2019 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum
Organizer: PULP Live World

A DAY6 concert is different than any idol group concert, not only for the obvious fact that DAY6 is a band, but also My Days don’t do fan chants—they sing. It is a known fact all over the world, but it is an ethereal moment to hear it live. The boys even had the crowd sing a portion of their song longer than they usually do in other countries.

The setlist was beautifully cohesive, surfacing a spectrum of emotions through funk, pop rock and angst. It felt like swimming in an ocean of sound.

And who would ever forget Jae crying for the first time in front of a crowd?

From Clara: Dreamcatcher Invitation From Nightmare City in Manila

March 24, 2019 at SM North EDSA Skydome
Organizer: MyMusic Taste

Before attending this concert, I only vaguely knew who Dreamcatcher was. Their pop-rock music was right up my alley, and I found myself actually having fun! I don’t remember any other idol group who held a giveaway in the middle of their concert. Let’s also never forget that fan who screamed “P*******a” for the entire venue to hear.

By the end of the concert, I wanted to stan them. (Yes, I had all their EPs on loop for days after the concert.) The concert was so good that I kept telling my US-based friends they were in for a treat when Dreamcatcher announced their US tour. If they ever come back here, I would love to go see them again as a legit InSomnia.

From Dan: EXplOration in Manila

August 24-25 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena
Organizer: PULP Live World

It was the almost perfect EXO concert! The hype, the fun, the interaction between PHIXOs and the boys. With only six members present, EXO made a statement as they pulled it off and made it almost comparable to what fans typically consider their best Manila stop ever—EXO’rdium in Manila. The setlist wasn’t the finest but hey, it’s the experience and beautiful concert moments that matter!

From Nina: Super Show 8 in Manila

Nothing is more special than starting and ending the decade with the legendary Kings of Hallyu, Super Junior (SJ). Back in 2010, SJ became the first K-Pop group to hold a major concert in the Philippines and just before we end 2019, they performed again in Manila for their eighth installment of Super Show. That time, only eight members were present, but Ph ELFs were able to show their support to other members, especially Lee Sung-min who has been in a long hiatus from the group’s activities.

Super Show 8 brought Ph ELFs down memory lane and to infinity—from nostalgic setlist to special stages to jaw dropping outfits. (Uhm, shout out to Leeteuk, Siwon, and Donghae!)
