ITZY dazzles in first premiere showcase in Manila

It hasn’t been a year since ITZY debuted and they have already captivated audiences worldwide with their undeniable stage presence, catchy tunes, and powerful dance moves.

Manila marked their fourth stop of their Premiere Showcase Tour, and the girls are scheduled to visit other Asian cities and North America. And since it was their first time in the country, Philippine MIDZYs (the official name of ITZY fans) made sure to leave a lasting impression.

The girls showed no sign of being rookies as they brought their A-game in all of their songs such as their title tracks, ICY and DALLA DALLA, and B-sides It’z Summer, CHERRY, and Want It.

They proved their versatility through their performance of JYP Entertainment’s senior groups, TWICE‘s TT and GOT7‘s Hard Carry. While their repertoire only consists of five songs (for now), it was enough to show the girls’ strong appeal and massive potential in the coming years. Ryujin did say that they will “go bigger and soar higher” in 2020.

On the flip side of being stellar performers, Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna are all just your regular fun-loving girls. In the games 1 Second Intro Quiz and All in Us Roulette, the girls became hilariously competitive among themselves. For the 1 Second Intro Quiz, the girls had to guess the title and artist of the song and dance to it after hearing only one second of the song. The girls were princesses in their own right as they cutely run to wear a crown to answer.

Among the songs that they guessed are MAMAMOO’s “HIP”,JYP’s “Fever”, AOA’s “Come See Me”, BTS’ “Boy in Luv”, Hyuna’s “Flower Shower”, Stray Kids’ “MIROH”, Red Velvet’s “UMPAH UMPAH”, and BLACKPINK’s “Kill this Love”.

At the end (of an intense battle), Yeji had the least number of correct answers and had to do the punishment, which is to show different poses. Though it was Yeji who only needed to do the punishment, the girls were goofy to do poses as well.

For the next game, All in Us! Roulette, the girls were challenged to do a task once the roulette stops. For this segment, the girls were asked to play a game of relay charades (while wearing bunny and kitten headbands).

The girls were able to guess seven words correctly within the given time and managed to escape punishment. But punishment or not, each of the girls gladly gave hearts to their fans.

In Question? ITZY!, a Q&A portion, fans were able to get to know the girls a little bit more.

Charismatic leader Yeji, who says will continue dancing if not in ITZY, also showcased her vocals in singing a portion of “Santa Tell Me”, her favorite Christmas song. Lia shared the same favorite Christmas song as with Yeji. And having been raised in Canada (granting her the ability to speak English fluently), she would have probably been a university student juggling part-time jobs like working in a cinema (so she can watch movies for free). She also spilled the beans of secretly eating pizza as one of her favorite memories as a trainee (Ryujin chimed in and said she was part of that group too).

Ryujin surprised us with her fluency in speaking English (with chicness flair) and her university course choice – something related to Business or Accounting. Usually, in charge of rap in the group, she sweetly sang a portion of SIA’s “Snowman”. We found ourselves gushing through the whole showcase at how cute Chaeryeong is, who said will probably be an actress if not in ITZY. Lastly, Living Barbie Yuna dreamed of becoming Elsa and thought of being an announcer. Fans asked her for a sample, wherein she cutely made a mistake and made up with a shy “Mahal ko kayo!”.

But it wasn’t only ITZY who had surprises for their fans. As the showcase drew to a close, Philippine MIDZYs surprised the girls with a heart-warming video of their journey to become stars. The girls were greatly touched and agreed that they will never forget their passionate fans from the Philippines.

Youngest Yuna, whose birthday falls on December 9, became emotional as MIDZYs sang her a “Happy Birthday”. “I think today is the first time that being greeted ‘Happy Birthday’ so many times,” said Yuna. She even added that being with MIDZYs made her birthday extra special.

With the Philippines making a huge first impression to ITZY, the girls promised to come back and with even better performances.

One thing for sure after this showcase – it was impossible not to fall in love with ITZY.

ITZY’s Premiere Showcase Tour “ITZY? ITZY!” in Manila was presented by JYP Entertainment and PULP Live World in partnership with Globe.

Cheska De Ocampo
Always up and about, Cheska was once asked if she always meets different people every single day. Well – not always – but almost because it is part of her job description and because she is actively involved in church. Having the opportunity to join KStreetManila, she combines two of her loves – writing and Korean culture. During her downtime (which somehow rarely happens), she is either scrolling through Twitter, writing for her blog, trying to be fit, reading a good book, or appreciating beauty and fashion.
