It’s Party Time with DJ HYO in Manila

February 8 was definitely an eventful day for various Fillipino fandoms, but for SONE and party people, House Manila was definitely the place to be. Even celebrities James Reid and Nadine Lustre were at the event! The cause for all the excitement: DJ HYO’s Exclusive Set in Manila.

This was the first time the Girls Generation member/DJ performed in Manila alone. DJ HYO has previously performed a DJ set in Cebu last year. She has also been to the country at least two times before as a member of Girls Generation.

That was enough to summon all the Titos and Titas of K-Pop to go out and party even though their aching bones would rather rest and sleep. Fans even brought Girls Generation light sticks, banners, and other ways to show their support for their idol. The locals were probably wondering whether they were at a K-Pop concert or a club.

The night started with sets from local DJs, namely Angelo G., LOX, and Nix Damn P!. LOX even shared that it was his ex who got him into K-Pop because she is a BTS fan. The local DJs also incorporated K-Pop hits such as Taeyang’s “Eyes, Nose, and Lips”, BLACKPINK’s “Kill This Love” and “DDU-DU DDU-DU”, BTS’ “Fake Love”, and Girls Generation’s “Party” into their sets. With that in mind, the stage was set for a fun night.

As the final notes to “Party” faded away, everyone in the venue knew that it was the moment everyone was waiting for. DJ HYO opened her exclusive set with Girls Generation’s “The Boys”. Everyone was singing the first part on the top of their lungs, including those who covered the event. Yes, everyone yelled out “GG”. It was evident how much PH SONE missed Girls Generation while supporting the girls in their individual endeavors.

She also threw in some more familiar songs such as Aqua’s “Barbie Girl”, The Ting Tings’ “Shut Up and Let Me Go”, Tyga’s “Ayy Macarena” and Justin Bieber’s “Yummy”, giving all of them her own twist.

It was a treat to hear DJ HYO’s own songs as well. She gave “Sober”, “Punk Right Now”, and “Badster” a remix that was exclusive to her Manila fans.

Admittedly, the real highlight of the night was when she played Girls Generation’s hit song “Gee.” She had everyone in the club shouting “Aha! Listen boy! My first love story!” It is probably safe to say that all PH SONE were crying in the club. (Figuratively or literally, we’re not sure anymore.)

She wrapped up her exclusive set with Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” and before everyone knew it, the night was already over.

Watching DJ HYO do her thing, we have come to a conclusion. She is a natural at what she does. Her whole set lasted for an hour with no breaks at all, just pure jumping and partying. There were a lot of times that DJ HYO asked the crowd to jump and scream. The struggle was very real for the Titos and Titas of K-Pop but they all gave it all they’ve got and partied like they were young. We swear, it takes a special skill to get the Titos and Titas of K-Pop out of our caves.

In fact, the banner the fans made for the event reads “You’re the best DJ”. With how passionate she is about her craft and how much fun people had that night, we may be inclined to agree that she is one of the best. If ever DJ HYO comes back to Manila, we’d definitely love to party with her again.

DJ HYO ‘The Exclusive DJ Set’ in Manila was presented by FanLive, Istudyo Ni Pipay, and DREAMMAKER Entertainment. Thank you for inviting us to cover the concert!
