#KStreetWonders: What Would a Barangay Fiesta with K-Pop Idols Be Like?

Fiestas have always been a part of our culture here in the Philippines. Usually held in May, these occasions are filled with lots of food and excitement in our barangays. Unfortunately, enhanced quarantine has forced most events to be canceled, if not postponed. We at KStreetManila decided to bring the festivities to you, our readers, instead.

With this in mind, we wondered, what would a fiesta hosted by our fave K-Pop idols be like?

Barangay Chairman: BoA

No fiesta or barangay for that matter would be possible without a competent barangay chairman to lead the way. Who else is better suited as a barangay chairman than the woman who made it possible for K-Pop to break so many barriers? Surely, BoA would make so many things happen for her constituents for a festival everyone will want to come back to every year.

Barangay Kagawads: BTS’ RM, EXO’s Baekhyun, GOT7’s Jackson, Kang Daniel, MONSTA X’s Shownu, and SEVENTEEN’s Woozi

As much as we think our barangay chairman is a superwoman, there have to be others to help make the fiesta run as smoothly as possible. There’s no doubt that these people have the influence to help get the residents of the barangay to participate in the fiesta’s many activities. In other words, they’re charismatic and charming enough to get the rich titas of the barangay to donate money.

SK Chairman: SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups

SK Members: ASTRO’s Sanha, (G)-IDLE’s Soyeon, GOT7’s Bambam, NCT’s Mark, ITZY’s Chaeryong, and TXT’s Soobin

The youth also have to be involved in planning this fiesta, so a reliable SK Chairman is there to make sure the youth’s opinions are heard. If the barangay wants the youth’s participation, they better start listening to the young people. The SK of this barangay are some of the idols with the most connections in the industry or the young overachievers we all admire. If the cool kids are doing it, then everyone else will follow.

Pambato sa Basketball: EXO’s Chanyeol, NCT’s Jaehyun, Pentagon’s Wooseok, SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu, and SF9’s Rowoon

No fiesta is complete without an inter-barangay or inter-kanto basketball match. Although mostly for bragging rights and entertainment, who knows which basketball scout might be watching? With basketball being pretty much the country’s favorite sport, it was also best to throw in some of the tallest idols in the industry who would likely steer the barangay to victory.

Muse: Red Velvet’s Joy

With a sports team, there has to be a pretty muse who will cheer for the home team. Joy’s sunshiny, bubbly personality will help motivate the players to always do their very best. With her experience on SBS’ “Handsome Tigers”, she can also be a team manager on the side if necessary. Besides, muse pa lang, panalo na.

Pambato sa Talent Show: AB6IX’s Daehwi, BTS’ J-Hope, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung, IZ*ONE’s Yena, Lovelyz’s Mijoo, N. Flying’s Jaehyun, SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan,  and TWICE’s Dahyun

Most barangays love hosting talent shows which reward participants with some cash and lots of bragging rights. Whether these people freely volunteered or were “volunteered” by their parents or friends, there’s no doubt that they provide a lot of entertainment for everyone. These contestants may deliver the laughs, but they are also willing to serve lots of talent. At diyan nagsisimula ang mga pre-debut content, to be honest.

Birit King and Queen: EXO’s Chen and MAMAMOO’s Solar

Some barangays have a free-for-all videoke machine where people can sing their hearts out. This isn’t surprising, considering how much we love our videoke here.In this case, the barangay’s best singers will go up against each other in a videoke contest, whether for fun, for the money, or for bragging rights. There are many amazing idol singers, but only two can be crowned the ultimate birit king and queen to rule them all.

Hataw King and Queen: SHINee’s Taemin and Chungha

If a singing contest isn’t the barangay’s thing, a dancing contest might be another option. Filipinos are skilled dancers, or at least have some background in it. (Shoutout sa mga may dancing P.E. or sa mga pinasayaw sa school diyan). The barangay’s best dancers will go head to head to prove which one of them is the best in town. There are many good idol dancers, but again, only two can be crowned the dancing king and queen of the barangay.

Mister and Miss KStreetManila 2020: ASTRO’s Cha Eunwoo and Girls Generation’s Yoona

With fiestas come beauty pageants for both men and women. Participants are usually the best-looking people in the barangay, and are more often than not signed up as a joke (or they want the cash prize). These winners have proven to be the visual legends of their time. Not only are they unfairly attractive, but they also have lots of substance and talent.

Is there anything else in a fiesta that you’d like to include? Which K-Pop idols would you invite to a fiesta at your place?
