This August, Vanilla Acoustic is KStreetManila’s artist of the month!
Vanilla Acoustic is a duo composed of Vanilla Man and Sung Ah. Vanilla Man is the guitarist and producer, known to have produced some of the songs for their labelmate and senior BOL4, while Sung Ah is the vocalist and “the reason why the band was formed.”
The group debuted in 2008 with their first mini-album “Vanilla Rain,” although at that time they were a trio. One of the founding members, Narae, left in 2012. Another member, Tarin, eventually joined the group as vocalist and guitarist but left three years later, and is now a soloist under a different agency.
Just like their name, Vanilla Acoustic’s songs are satisfyingly sweet. But, their discography is never limited to the confines of acoustic sound. They also have ballads and folk songs that are just as equally comforting.
The group has released soundtracks for dramas such as Cheese in the Trap and Hotel King. They once mentioned in an interview that it’s their dream to release a theme song for a drama.
They have also done collaborations with soloists such as Shin Hye-Sung and Heize.
The band doesn’t have any music show appearances, but they prefer concerts so they could interact with their fans.
Vanilla Acoustic’s songs are a far cry from the K-Pop sound that we’re used to yet they don’t sound like your typical indie song, too. If you’re looking for something new to accompany you while working or relaxing or you just want to take a break from K-Pop, do check them out. Their discography is available on Spotify.
