Soon to Rise: ‘Korea Town’ in Manila

We just might get our very own “Myeongdong” at the historic city of Manila!

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines Kim In Chul met with Mayor Isko Moreno on March 9 to discuss establishing Korea Town in Malate, Manila.

“We are building Korea Town in the Malate area to showcase Korean culture right in the nation’s capital. We also told His Excellency about how we benchmarked Myeong-dong’s markets in Binondo, Manila,” the Mayor said.

The initiative has been in the pipeline since 2019 when former ambassador Han Dong Man first met the Manila Mayor. Until now, no definite date on when will Korea Town in Malate be established.

While there is already a known Korea Town in Angeles City, Pampanga, once established, this will be the first official Korea Town in partnership with South Korea.
